Drop D Tuning Explained

The Drop "D" tuning produces some of the richest and most vibrant chords possible on the guitar. They fill the room with a warm powerful sound. Your guitar will never have sounded so good.

If your guitar is already in standard tuning, tuning to Drop D is a snap. Simply loosen your sixth string (E) until it sounds exactly like your fourth string (D), one octave lower.

The following fingerings are used in drop D tuning to make standard chords:
