The Mummy’s Search

“I sure hope this works,” said the mummy as he turned on the flashlight. It was a
Sunday afternoon and the mummy was standing at the top of the stairs leading to the dark
and dirty basement of his mother’s house. His mom was helping him search for the key
to unlock a box in the attic. The light bulb was still burned out from years before.
When
he was walking down the stairs he tripped over one of his loose bandages on his foot and
fell down the stairs. He slid head first down the stairs and hit his head at the
bottom.
After his head felt better, he walked straight into a 55 year old mirror. The glass
in the
mirror shattered and tore some of his bandages off.
His mom yelled, “Are you alright son?”
“Yes,” the mummy said, “I just fell down the stairs and broke a mirror.”
The mummy got up and checked himself for cuts and bruises. When he knew he was
alright, he hit the flashlight to get the light back on. When the light was working, he
began his search for the key. He looked in every square inch of his mother’s basement,
but he still didn’t find the key. The next place he looked after the basement was the
garage. The garage was filled with cars, tools, bicycles and other junk. It was in
worse
shape than the basement. He checked under boxes, on the shelves and under cars and
still
didn’t have any luck finding the key.
Finally he went up to the attic and dragged the box down the stairs to the
living room.
He tried to open it in every way from prying it with a crowbar to beating on it with a
hammer.
After all the work, all the searching, and all the injuries, he sat down and
realized that
he had forgotten what was in the box.
The mummy asked his mom, “Where do you think the key could be, and what the
heck is in this darn box anyway?”
His mother said laughing, “I don’t know where the key is, but your brain is in
the box
along with your memory.”
After his mother laughed at him, the mummy felt like giving up, so he sat down
frustrated and put his hands on his pockets. He felt something in his pocket. It
felt like a
key. It was the key that he had been looking for, and it fit the lock on the box. He
opened the box and put his brain back into his head. After his brain was in his
head, he
remembered what was in the box and why he was looking for the key.
His mother said, “Hurry up and get your homework done and get to bed.”
The mummy slept good that night even though he had everything on his mind.
