Also after each phrase in the verse there is a small lick that can be improvised based around the Gm#5 chord in 
the pentatonic scale that is often found in slower Chili Peppers songs (think like the riff that John played in
Under the Bridge during the verse around the chords) its a very swift hammer/pull that sounds very sweet.
