Shang-a-lang by The Doug Anthony All Stars

         E D E
Let's dig, let's jump,
                              C D
Let's go into the river and a-humma-humma-hump
         E D E
Your tail, tail wag,
                              C D
Let's go into the kennel and shagga-shagga-shag
A C
Shangalang, shangalang
A D
Shangalang-dang-dang

        E D E
Your spit, my spine
                              C D
Gonna make me a holler with a full bodied wine
        F# E D E
Don't bite, don't talk
                          C
Let's go into the sty and puppa-puppa-puppa-puppa
      A C
Shangalang, shangalang
      A D
Shangalang-dang-dang
      A C
Shangalang, shangalang
      A D
Shangalang-dang-dang

My heart nailed to your door in a gesture of desire,
Think I'll follow the path of the guanama,
     A
And set myself, set myself afire.

              E D E
You got a match, gasoline
                       C D
Why do you treat me so ma-ma-ma-ma-mean
             E D E
You got a gun, got a bullet
Got a finger on the trigger
      C
Gonna pa-pa-pa-pull it

      A C
Shangalang, shangalang
      A D
Shangalang-dang-dang
      A C
Shangalang, shangalang
      A D
Shangalang-dang-dang

Good intentions paved the road to hell,
High ideals do the same.
Think I'll follow the path of the guanaco,

I'm gonna set myself, set myself aflame.

      A D
Shangalang-dang-dang
      A
Shangalang!

On the actual studio version, in the second verse (the "Gonna make me holler" bit),
Ricky doesn't actually
play any chords, but instead scratches his strings by running his pick or fingernail up
and down the neck,
probably on the A and D strings. Also, for the first two "Shang-a-lang" repetitions in
the outro, the guitar
is tacet. At the end of the third verse, he scratches it again. I think the F# chord in
the second verse was
played in error.

On the studio version, all the chords played are power chords except for the A in the
bit about the guanama,
which is an Am chord. More properly, it is a B5 chord played on an acoustic
guitar downtuned to DGCFAD, resulting in
the A sound.

Here's the bass tab for the verses:
G----------------------------
D----------------------------
A---------------------333555-
E-0-000-03000-00555555-------

The bass tab played during the Martin Luther King sample/solo is also played during the choruses and
throughout the outro. There is no bass in the guanama verse.

If you're doing the song acoustically, you can just play the chord progression from the
chorus during the MLK
speech.
