Intermediate - Drop C Tuning Ver 1 by Misc Misc - Intermediate - Drop C Tuning ver 1 guitar tab Drop C tuning A lot of people have heard about drop D tuning which is tuning your low E string down one whole step. In drop C you tune all the strings down one whole step. Any song in Drop D can be played in Drop C. Drop C is just to make songs sound even heavier. You will need to know how to tune to Drop D when you want to tune to Drop C. Standard Tuning EBGDAE E---------------|---------|-----------|------------|---------0- B---------------|---------|-----------|---------0--|--5-------- G---------------|---------|--------0- |---4--------|----------- D---------------|------0--|--5--------|------------|----------- A-----------0-- |-5-------|-----------|------------|----------- E------5--------|---------|-----------|------------|----------- Each of these notes when stricken has the same octave To do this right your Low E(thickest string)need to be in tune Drop D Tuning DBGDAE E---------------|---------|-----------|------------|---------0- B---------------|---------|-----------|---------0--|--5-------- G---------------|---------|--------0--|---4--------|----------- D---------------|------0--|--5--------|------------|----------- A-----------0-- |-5-------|-----------|------------|----------- E------7--------|---------|-----------|------------|----------- When you’re going from standard to Drop D hold your finger at the seventh fret and match the octaves of Low E with the open A note. (you are only changing your tuning on the low E string do not touch anything else yet) Now that you’re in Drop D you need to lower your Low E string to C. This is how you do it. E---------------|---------|-----------|------------|---------0- B---------------|---------|-----------|---------0--|--5-------- G---------------|---------|--------0--|---4--------|----------- D---------------|------0--|--5--------|------------|----------- A-----------0-- |-5-------|-----------|------------|----------- D------9--------|---------|-----------|------------|----------- Hold your finger at the ninth fret and match the octaves of Low E with the open A note. (you are only changing your tuning on the low E string do not touch anything else yet) Now your low E string is a C and all that’s left is two bring all the other strings down one whole step. Drop C tuning CGCFAD D---------------|---------|-----------|------------|---------0- A---------------|---------|-----------|---------0--|--5-------- F---------------|---------|--------0--|---4--------|----------- C---------------|------0--|--5--------|------------|----------- G-----------0-- |-5-------|-----------|------------|----------- C------7--------|---------|-----------|------------|----------- Now that your low E string is a C, the note at the seventh fret is different, it is a now a G note. So what you have to do is lower the open A one whole step and you do that by matching the open A note to the note at the seventh fret. Now that you’ve done that the forth string needs to be lowered so you match it with the note on the fifth fret of the A string. Follow the rest of this pattern illustrated in the diagram above. Congratulations you are in drop C tuning. Many bands use Drop C tuning and one of my favourite bands system of a down uses it in many songs. Here is part of the song Toxicity. Hopefully my lesson here actually taught you how to tune to drop C so learn this riff and if it doesn’t sound right try again.
