The Crucible Of God Gethsemane by Matt Papa

Crucible of God (Gethsemane)

Key of C (Changes to D mid-song)

By Matt Papa

Great Song! Note that during the verses, there is a transitional chord (G) between Am and F
I have included the chord in parentheses, but it is optional, play it if you like. I do think it
adds a lot to the song though. Also, the switch from G to Em to Am in the verses is faster than
most chord transitions. The Em is almost a transitional chord.

Intro: Am ( G ) F G Em Am

Verse 1:

Am ( G ) F
Father God where are you now?

                                 G
A garden turns to a battle ground

                        Em Am
As You collapse and You gasp at the towering foe

Am ( G ) F
The terror seizes Your weakened frame

                                             G
You shake and heave with Your tears like rain

                                Em F
Now pouring down, You would drown in the pain alone

       G
All alone

Chorus 1:

     Am F C
Gethsemane

                G
Loves greatest hour

          Am F C
You were on Your knees

             G
Passion and fire

          F Am
And You pleaded and You prayed

             F G
Oh can there be another way?

    Am ( G ) F G Em Am
Gethsemane

Verse 2:

Am ( G ) F
Your dearest few now fast asleep

                                G
For who could view this mystery?

                          Em Am
Behind the veil, the travail and grief of God

                                             ( G ) F
You writhed and groaned as the serpent hissed

                                           G
The mob approached, would it end like this?

                                Em F
The Prince of Peace, Heaven's King with a kiss betrayed

             G
But you fought and prayed

Chorus 2:

     Am F C
Gethsemane

                G
Loves greatest hour

         Am F C
Oh the agony

                G
A Lamb to the slaughter

           F Am
And You sweat with drops of blood

        F G
As You faced the wrath of God

     F
Gethsemane

Bridge:

         Am G
Oh the fight, in the night

           C F G Em
With the light of the world in darkness

         Am G
Oh the pain, oh the shame

          C F G
As He prayed, "God have You forsaken me?"

Chorus 3:

    Bm G D
Gethsemane

            A
Raging desire

      Bm G D
Love beyond degree

                 A
Forged in the fire

          G Bm
And you chose to win Your bride

          G A
On that dreadful lonely night

    Bm A
Gethsemane

         G Bm
And You raised the bitter cup

         G A
As You prayed Your will be done

     Bm A
Gethsemane

           G Bm
And You counted up the cost

              G A
But did you know it meant the cross?

     Bm
Gethsemane
