Gone Away (ver 4) by The Offspring Offspring - Gone Away [Guitar & Bass Tabs] There are so many horrifically wrong tabs for this song. which is a shame as it has to be one of the best OFFSPRING songs out there. so Ive decided to give you the absolute correct version of both guitar and bass. there are some other tabs on the site with 5 stars which are totally wrong- if you play this version along with the song you'll hear that its more or less bang on. we'll start with guitar: Tuning: E A D G B E (standard tuning) Intro/chorus (guitar 1) e------------------------------------------------------------------------------- b------------------------------------------------------------------------------- g-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-----------------8-8-8-8-8-8-8------------------------- d-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10--6-6-6-6-6-6-6--8-8-8-8-8-8-8--8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-------- a--8--8--8--8--8--8--8--8--6-6-6-6-6-6-6--6-6-6-6-6-6-6--8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-------- e--------------------------4-4-4-4-4-4-4-----------------6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-------- Then 2nd guitar comes in with this very "meaty" sounding riff (noodles)(guitar 1 carries on with the previous riff) e-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8--8-8-8-8-8-8-8--6-6-6-6-6-6-6---6-6-6-6-6-6-6--------- b-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6--9-9-9-9-9-9-9--4-4-4-4-4-4-4---6-6-6-6-6-6-6--------- g------------------------------------------------------------------------------- d------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a------------------------------------------------------------------------------- e------------------------------------------------------------------------------- guitar 1 lets this note ring...... e------- b------- g------- d---3--- a---3--- e---1--- ...whilst guitar 2 starts this nice sounding solo (solo 1) (Ive found that a chorus pedal works well with this- but if you dont have one then some reverb should be fine) e------------------------------------------------------------------------------- b------------------------------------------------------------------------------- g----------10---------8--------8-8-103-3--3-5---------------------------------- d--8-10--------5-6------3-5--------------------3(let ring through verse)-------- a-------8----------6--------6--------------------------------------------------- e------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHORUS: both guitars play the intro/chorus. when Dexter stops singing, guitar two breaks off and plays the "meaty" riff twice through. 2nd half of the second verse (bridge): e------8------6------6--1----4---------- ----- b----6------4------4-------3---4/6------ ----- g--5------5------3--------3------------- x2 ----- d--------------------------------------- --8-- a--------------------------------------- --8--(this note is palm muted e--------------------------------------- --6-- near the end on guitar 1) This is the whole song- the rest of the song carries on with all these parts (remember the first part of the chorus is played the same on both guitars- the "meaty" riff only comes in during the 2nd run through- when he stops singing and starts doing that little moan thing.) Now for the bass: Tuning: E A D G (standard tuning) Intro/Chorus g------------------------------------------------------------------- d------------------------------------------------------------------- a--8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-----------------6-6-6-6-6-6-6-8------------------ e------------------4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4------------------6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6- Verse: g----------------------------------------------------------------------------- d----------------------------------------------------------------------------- a-------------------------------------3--6-6-6-6-6-6-6-8---------------------- e--1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-3--4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4--------------------6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6--5-4- Bridge: (same as verse) Ending: g----------------------- d----------------------- a----------------------- e--6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-6-1-- Im not a bassist so theres probably stacks of room for improvement here, but I thought this could get you started. Ill add an order of how it is played to try and make more sense of it: intro 2x verse 3x chorus 4x verse 4x chorus 4x verse and bridge chorus 2x verse 2x chorus and ending Lyrics: VERSE 1 Maybe in another life I could meet you there Pulled away before your time I cant deal, its so unfair CHORUS 1 And it feels And it feels like Heavens so far away And it feels Yeah it feels like The world has grown cold Now that youve gone away VERSE 2 Leaving flowers on your grave Show that I still care But black roses and hail Marys Cant bring back whats taken from me BRIDGE I reach to the sky And call out your name And if I could trade I would CHORUS 2 And it feels And it feels like Heavens so far away And it stings Yeah it stings now The world is so cold Now that youve gone away Ok there we are!!! This is a fantastic song to play in a band so I hope that this has helped out a little for all you budding musicians!!! if anyone has any feedback or comments/corrections, please dont hesitate to put them in the comments box at the top of the page. Thanks everybody!!!
